Why is it ok for black people to say the word Nigger/Nigga?

So Rhianna's new video is causing a bit of a stir on the old www today....

I had a little listen, and was slightly shocked at her overuse of the word Nigger/Nigga.

Now I was led to believe that the word was pretty much banned from the universe now, I only ever see it referred to as the 'N-word' these days.

So, I had a little nose around Google to see if anyone else thought the same, and apparently it's a very complex matter, which starts off with the spelling...

Nigger = Big no no!

The term nigger is deemed racist, as long as the speaker of it is not black. It's forbidden on most all of television and other forms of public entertainment, usually referenced to as the "n-word". However, "cracker", a term racist against whites, is a completely acceptable term used in any context of any national broadcast.

Nigga = Absolutely fine.......as long as you're either A: Coloured yourself or B: Have been friends long enough with the intended recipient of your slur.

Nigga is a word which evolved from the derogative term "nigger". Tupac best defined the distinction between the two.

NIGGER- a black man with a slavery chain around his neck.

NIGGA- a black man with a gold chain on his neck.

I'm pretty sure that the spelling difference can't be used as a way to make it seem 'ok', as people would just continue using all manor of sexist/racist/homophobic slurs.  For example calling a homosexual a queer but on getting caught saying you called him a qweer......which is your made up bullshit for someone who's gay, and amazing!

What I don't really understand and never will, is why words like this seem to offend people so much, just embrace who you are! I wouldn't get offended at being called a cracker because I like being me. I'm Welsh and proud, we get called sheep shaggers all the time, none of us actually shag sheep (hopefully) and I don't know a single fellow Welshie that's ever been offended by it.

I used the search terms "How can Rhianna say nigga" and the headlines and stories that popped up were simply baffling....

1) "Rihanna furious at being called a 'nigga bitch'"

2) "Rihanna Tweets: “It Must Suck That White People Can't Say Nigga"

To use it as a term of endearment when it suits, then as a weapon to call people racists when it doesn't, is quite simply another double standard of racism in our current time.  It's either racist and offensive, or it's not!
